Expository Preaching

Preaching. It may seem odd to some, but the Bible teaches that even in these days of mind-numbing media and technological advances, God has chosen the preaching of His Word, the Bible, to be His divinely ordained means of declaration and instruction. While we do not believe this means that the various forms of media can’t be used to enhance the sermon’s application, we do continue to hold fast to ” the primacy of preaching.”

Paul says in 1st Corinthians 1:21, “For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.”

He also says in 1st Corinthians 9:16, “For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for necessity is laid upon me; yes, woe is me if I do not preach the gospel!”

What is “Biblical Preaching?”

In short, it is teaching what the Bible says. It means that we do not come to the pages of Scripture with our predetermined ideas or desired outcomes and force those on the text. It means that we do not look for verses to support our views without taking those verses in their natural, scriptural context. Rather, we seek to “expose the meaning of the text” through systematic preaching through various books, sections or themes of the Bible.  This “expository preaching” is the most beneficial way of presenting the truth of Scripture so that those who don’t know Jesus will come to know Him, and Christians will grow and develop in their walk and work for Christ.
